Kung Fu

Image

Master Pat Hancock teaches traditional Kung Fu and Tai Chi as it was passed to him by Grandmaster Huang, Chien Liang the current grandmaster of Tien Shan Pai. Kung fu and Tai Chi are considered the grandfather of martial arts. Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, Judo, Jujitsu and Aikido are off-shoots of Kung Fu and Tai Chi. The techniques of Kung Fu and Tai Chi are supple, fluid and circular and use the opponent's strength and momentum to your advantage.

Kung Fu was developed by Chinese monks who observed the natural fighting skills of animals and adapted them for use by people. The movements, while powerful, are relaxed and fluid, rather than rigid and repetitive. Kung Fu is a healthy style of martial arts, which emphasizes quick movements around opponents with the ability to defend against greater size and strength.

Rapid execution of techniques builds cardiovascular capacity and endurance. The great diversity of blocking, striking and foot movements builds muscle strength and agility. Kung Fu is a holistic discipline because it includes both mental and physical benefits.

ImageTestimonial by one of our young adult students.

"I have been taking Kung Fu classes for 1 ½ years and have just begun classes in Tai Chi.

I have found that kung fu helps with my concentration by making me feel centered. A centered feeling helps me focus when I’m playing violin or painting. I feel strong and balanced with kung fu which improves my skiing. Kung fu also helps with my confidence because it makes me feel strong willed and independent. Sometimes when I have a headache or a stomach ache kung fu helps me feel better by taking my mind off the hurt."
